About Me

How do you do? What brings you here?

Who am I, you ask? Thanks for asking. I am a science enthusiast. I have occasionally identified myself as a ‘skeptic,’ an ‘atheist,’ a ‘humanist’ and just a general lover of learning. I am also a mother and a feminist.

I believe that people have the potential to be truly great.  I believe in the ethical principle of reciprocity because is the best rule to live by, not because of a belief in a god, or any universal morality, but because the evidence supports it. I believe that we don’t have to sacrifice technology to live in harmony with the Earth, in fact technology is essential to our future. And I believe that science is the best tool we have to unveil the truth about the universe.  I am passionate about social justice. I love the idea of sustainable communities.  I hate living in the suburbs.

Skeptopia is my blog. It’s a place where I can be free to be as idealistic as I want, and if you want to contradict me, you can, but I moderate the comments.

I was referred to your blog by a friend on the australian skeptics listserv She is transgender which is probably why she picked up your blog. I noticed you now live in Australia, so you might like to join our list.

Even if you don’t care to join, you might enjoy Zoe’s blog which is one of the better australian ones.

Intersexed actually, rather than Transgender, but as that term often is interpreted to include Intersex conditions, close enough. I’m not precious about it 🙂 A nose by any other name would smell.
I do hope you join though, you’d be a real asset.

Are you the Liz I met at TAM Fringe dinner @ Maloney’s Hotel last Friday, who lives in the same suburb as me? If so – HI! If not – HI! 🙂

    Dear noblecaboose:

I hope you and athon are having a wonderful life, and furthermore, this morning I wish you a Happy Mother’s Day. (I seem to recall a story of at least one little one enriching your lives).

Stumbled across the goodbye blog post in the usual random way I find things on the internet, and while I miss you and athon on the boards, I understand how things like that work.

Best Wishes to you both, forever.

    Darth Rotor
